Standards & Regulatory
3G Americas encourages regulatory and standards-based environments in the Americas that stimulate the growth of advanced wireless services via the region's most extensive wireless technologies: GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, and LTE. By remaining engaged with national and international regulatory agencies, standards-development organizations, industry associations, and technology teams, the 3G Americas highlights issues critical to the development of new services.
We consolidate the key developments within these bodies and pass them along to members in a timely fashion. Where appropriate, we develop and present strategic positions to these organizations to assure a full understanding of the implications of their proposals and agenda items under consideration.
We are fully committed to market based wireless policies with the notion that the successful development, deployment, and operation of advanced wireless communications systems are based firmly on the principle of public-private partnership exercised through mutual respect, consultation and constant dialogue.
Advocacy
Advancing global wireless services requires effective representation and constructive dialogue between national regulatory agencies and within the framework of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States. 3G Americas is fully committed to participation in these forums as appropriate according to the subject matter under discussion. Even though 3G Americas is an organization incorporated in the United States, the extensive international resources and worldwide experience of its members and staff enable it to be both productive and convincing. Our advocacy program includes the following elements:
Close liaison with national wireless operator organizations and continual dialogue with member and potential member companies from both the operator and vendor communities;
Constant review of regulatory events related to licensing and additional spectrum allocation;
The presentation of written and verbal contributions as appropriate before national regulatory bodies concerning matters of interest to the GSM, EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA and LTE community;
Representation at the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and membership at ITU;
Full participation in the deliberations of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States, including Permanent Consultative Committee I (Public Services and Permanent Consultative Committee III (Radiofrequencies); and
Presentations at international symposia sponsored by industry and regulatory organizations.
